In 2021, it is so much more difficult for young families to buy a free-standing house in the Randwick municipality.

We have calculated that the price escalation over a period of 55 years has been approximately 300 times, making it very difficult to own a house in the Eastern Suburbs today.

It’s the end of an era for the McMahon Family, (Paul and Eileen), who were lifetime Randwick Residents, and both passed away within 6 months of each other in the past 2 years.

Paul and Eileen, who married in 1957 at St Brigid’s Church in Coogee and then bought their first home together at number 26 Stewart Street, Randwick in 1967 for 6,000 pounds - ($12,000 AUD).

Fast forward 55 years and the Estate of the late Paul and Eileen McMahon will go to Auction on the 4th of December 2021, through selling agents Mitchell Farah from First Hand Property and Martin Farah from NGFarah.

The home is in a quiet cul-de-sac at the back of The Spot in Randwick.  It is an original character filled 2 / 3 bed home, yet its period foundations have been enhanced for someone to move in as is and then decide what they will do to further enhance/renovate.  The home has loads of potential, is set on a generous level block of land and has side and rear lane access. Paul used to say “This is the prettiest house in the Street you know love and the only one with a side driveway”, Jenine the youngest daughter said. “The house was his pride and joy as was his family all of his life – he was always working on the house and maintaining it, as he was a brilliant Carpenter/Joiner.  The quaint white picket fence Paul built over 40 years ago is still as strong and perfect as it was when he first built it”, Jenine said.

Paul McMahon was 1 of 14 children, who lived in the Randwick area all his life. He watched Randwick transition from a sleepy seaside suburb to a thriving metropolis that Randwick City is today.

The executors of the property are their 3 daughters, Kathryn, Leanne and Jenine, who have some remarkable memories in the quant 2/3 bedroom cottage in Randwick.

“Growing up in the Randwick / Coogee area was such a privilege – the memories we will cherish forever”, said Leanne the middle daughter. We have strong community ties and a large extended family who form part of this broader Randwick Community”.

Ironically the selling agents are also family, Mitchell Farah of First Hand Property and Uncle, Martin Farah of NGFarah – the Farah’s have had a strong relationship with the McMahon family for over a period of 25 years, “When it came to appointing the agents to sell the property it was all about choosing the right people and Martin Farah and Mitchell Farah are family.” - said Jenine McMahon, the youngest daughter.

It is an end of an Era for a very well-respected family who lived in Randwick for almost a Century, their footprints will be in Randwick forever.

A beginning of a New Era for another Family to make their wonderful memories, just like the McMahons did.
